My lunch menu today, intervals & hills on the road bike, 40.2 miles & 1720 ft climbed in 2:24;

● alternated between steady zone 2-4 effort on flats and hills with some sprints & recovery thrown in here and there over the session (zone 5)....avg heartrate was 128, max was 167 bpm...about 12 shy of my peak.

● lots of crosswind and headwind today, 16 mph out of SSE, so only downwind portion I had was pointing the bike north...about 15% of the ride mileage.

● this ride day followed a 35 mile Mountain bike ride yesterday....legs were a bit weaker and sore.

However, I have developed a tolerance, maybe even fondness for hill climbing...very wierd.

Good job Steven. I'm a little crazy too (run/walk intervals in 90 degree weather.) Hey, congrats on your new addition to your family.

Positive thinking helps me get the most out of the workouts JC, also it really does feel good when I stop...lol. Thanks Ches, thanks for the congrats, mom & baby are doing great...nice to hear you are foing well, keep on the path you're on, diet first and foremost but a little activity sure helps in the long run too :-)

Oh ya, just a FYI, the weekly mileage may seem like a lot but it is pretty standard for most bikers looking to improve endurance and/or performance. Note; these training sessions are not for fat loss (though that is a welcome side benefit), the goal is to ride farther and faster without suffering too much.
