AAARGH. I think I've gained weight, but I have no way to tell just now. My grading for the semester was finished early, and I decided to take some personal time for myself before heading to my parents' home for two weeks of Christmas with the family. After a VERY stressful semester with personal and family setbacks galore, I'm frazzled and in desperate need of "me" time. So I'm now rusticating in a comfortable hotel in a large city that I just love (I've been here for professional conferences before; it has many wonderful museums and excellent shopping). My room doesn't have a bathroom scale, though. I'm eating in restaurants with sommeliers, honest-to-gosh tablecloths, and no supply of crayons for the kiddies. If I can hold my weight to 30 pounds below my starting weight in April, I'll consider this year a good start. Spring semester is always a little easier for me (I teach two courses and a grad seminar, rather than the three and two I do in the fall), and my department has alloted me a grad student to be my teaching assistant, so I'll be good. It should be much easier to stick to my weight loss regime in 2018. In the meantime, I won't be around much here until after Christmas, so I wish each and every one of you a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND WONDERFUL 2018! ¡FELIZ NAVIDAD Y PROSPERO AÑO NUEVO!
