I didn't journal yesterday as we went for a hike and it just about wiped me out. I didn't enjoy this hike, in spite of the beautiful scenery. The hike starts with a climb around and up a hill, then a dip and around another hill to the top and then it's down, down, down. And rocky, and some areas ridiculously steep, some full of those loose rocks that you twist an ankle on or slip and catch yourself awkwardly, usually hurting yourself in the attempt! I smoked for too many years of my life and have a hard time with the cardio part of any kind of work out, although it is definitely better now than before. But still, the entire way down I kept telling myself, I'm gonna HATE going back up! Which is a crappy way to start a hike, already dreading the return. But honestly, the way down hurt more (knees and hips) than the way up killed my lungs. I hope I remember that in the future. It was just a painful hike and not one I want to repeat. I wish we had two 4-wheel drives. I wouldn't mind doing that hike again if I could combine it with another trail to make it a shuttle hike. Plus it was getting hot on the return, mid 80s in the canyon, I'm sure. Pretty soon we're going to have to drive a couple of hours to hike. I'm not looking forward to that. Yesterday I burned 3200 calories, though. The hike alone was about 1800 of them! But I ate a lot of calories! About 2,000! A lot of calories, I think it was the protein bar that put me up so high. Without it, it would have been about 1750 - still high, but not when you consider the calorie burn for the day. I wish I could hike like that and keep my calories under 1500, but haven't managed to do that yet. You wouldn't think it would matter, but I'm telling ya, my body does some weird ass shit these days. I haven't lost any weight for about three weeks, either. I guess I have to cut the calories back to below 1500, maybe 1350 again. I can't believe I have to eat that little to drop ONE POUND. Not when the bodybugg tells me I'm burning 2400 or 2500 calories a day (not including the hike days). I should be EASILY dropping 1.5 - 1.9 lbs per week, consistently. Very weird.
