I finally decided to step on the scale. Too many weeks of eating whatever I wanted while my house was for sale. No cooking, just picking up food for the most part. I guess it's bad when the place I get chicken strips greets me by name when I walk in. I had never had chicken strips until this past April.

Yesterday I took my house off the market. Selling in a buyer's market is not for me. There are about 4 times as many homes for sale now than a couple weeks before I put the house for sale. We have been in a miserable heat wave for about 10 days with temperatures over 100 without the typical cool off at night. I have little energy if I spend more than 2 or 3 minutes outside. I swear I saw a poor buck panting yesterday. I keep a bucket of water out for the wildlife and often see the wild turkeys drinking from it. I also keep filling up the bird bath and built in pond on the bank as the water evaporates quickly. I've seen a blue jay several times splashing in the bird bath.

I bought a compact Dash air fryer when I first listed my house. I put it in a room with my packed boxes, assuming I would soon use it in a new house. So I will find it and figure out how to use it since it won't matter if the house smells like brussels sprouts

So disappointing the house didn’t sell but I have to say I’m relieved for you that you get to enjoy some respite now from the whole process! Wishing you luck for the next time but right now this sounds like a good decision for you to take a break. By the way, I find the idea of selling my house (I’d like to move, too) quite unbearable due to all the inconveniences associated with it. It was interesting to read about your experience.

I think you made a wise choice in taking the house off of the market if the area is flooded with houses for sale it makes it that much harder to sell. My late MIL house has been on the market for 20 days and it seems like it has been on forever, so I can't imagine how frustrating it was for you. So find that air fryer and when you go to Costco look for the low carb chicken tenders and enjoy. Now you can take time for you and the pets and enjoy the rest of the summer. The time will be right to put the house back on the market and it will sell. Hugs

Thanks Agnes! I'm glad to be able to take things out of cupboards and use them again, like Bobby's dog beds, an acrylic cutting board (I kept it in the dishwasher for 3 months) and throw rugs to start living my normal life. You may not have issues like I do. Having a dog means he has to go with me everywhere so I can't leave for an hour or most of the day. The cats just hide, but it stresses one of them out a lot to have people coming into the house. And if you live in a normal community instead of a gated community in a rural location that has mostly 2nd home or retirement home buyers your house might sell right away. I would ask a real estate agent what the market is like. It's not a buyer's market everywhere. Even here the high end homes on the lake that are $1-2 million sell right away.

Thank you for taking care of the critters during this awful heat.

Thanks Golfgirl! I won't enjoy the rest of the summer since it's the time of year I hate where I live. All of the days until at least October are in the 90's and 100's. But hopefully I can relax a little although the fire danger is really high. There have already been a few fires in my town that have started but luckily were put out quickly. I just got back from Costco and I actually saw and bought some frozen, lightly breaded chicken strips with only 4 carb grams per serving and 21 grams of protein. There are instructions for fooking in the air fryer on the bag!

I know what you mean about the heat we are 109 right now with the temps staying the same or higher for several more days. Heaven forbid a fire in our area we live in the middle of wheat fields, even though we do have a fire barrier around the house but have to be careful still by watching what is going on around us. I go out in the evenings to water the flowers and veggie garden it is bearable that time around eight PM. We are headed to the West side the Seattle area for a few days next week to get a break form the high temps. It is at least 20 degrees cooler there.

Bless your heart! That’s tough, especially during a heat wave. Nice of you to take care of the critters like that!

Golf girl its 95 right now (im 40 miles south of downtown Seattle). It’s pretty hot here too tho not 109. Fritzy im sorry that has been the outcome for you so far but hopefully it means a bigger profit when you do re-list. Good you caught the weight before it was 72 pounds more tho right? 😃. House off the market you can concentrate on your healthy habits more im sure. Take care my friend.

Thanks AncientHippie and StormsGirl! It's not as hot today, forecast is for 104 but I don't think it will reach 100. Three bucks are on my front bank where is have 3 mimosas/silk trees that are covered with beautiful pink flowers (and full of buzzing bees and hummingbirds). The deer love the pink flowers and are eating them. There are hundreds on the ground. The turkeys always look miserable when it's hot outside but they do find shady areas. I've always kept water in buckets and even a small bowl for the squirrels

GolfGirl, fires are common in my area and it is the main reason I want to move. After being evacuated a few years ago I've learned to keep "go" bags ready with clothes and important papers and pictures. Also I keep a bag for the pets in the car with food, dishes and even litter. And I learned it is so important to keep the car full of gas. So many people line up for gas when they have to evacuate. I go out first thing in the morning if I need to water anything. My niece lives right by Olympia and she hasn't said anything about a heat wave there

Hang in there - sorry you don't enjoy your summers at your place. Take care of yourself and your pets and come back renewed later

Thanks YOH! I always find it hard to get back on track after eating what I want, even if it's just a day or two. I'm motivated to buy things that are priced low, especially food. I've been to Costco 4 or 5 times since I renewed my membership when a new store opened close to me. It was tough today, seeing huge packs of muffins at a great price, tater tots, 2 huge rounds of sour dough bread, etc. But I managed today. I am going back next week with my pet sitter. She doesn't have a membership and enjoyed going with me about a month ago. I just like getting out the house for an hour or two. I am worried I'll need to lower the price of my house to sell it. A big house on my street, over 3000 square feet had an appraisal done last year at $650k and it was listed at $599k for months and months before it went off the market for a few weeks. It was just listed a couple weeks ago at $499,900 and sold almost immediately. I can't afford to do that and be able to buy something else

Fritzy there are areas of costco i have to avoid. Bakery is one of them and the ice cream and chip aisle are others. Remember even if it is priced low it may be “garbage” for your woe. Or something along those lines. Can you wait it out a couple of years? With our land that we are now back to debating building on again i am prepared to sit on it for about 3 ish years for the market to turn. Tho who knows what will happen post election maybe it will stimulate the market and the fed.

Thanks Abba! I just don't like hot weather. I can't go on walks unless it's well below 80 so I don't do much unless I meet friends for lunch. It usually cools down in the evenings so I enjoy sleeping with the sliding glass door or window open

Slimmerjesse2, I am in Northern California in the Sierra Nevada lower foothills. About an hour from Sacramento

Sorry to hear the house wasn't selling but it's stressful to deal with all that. Try again in the fall maybe? You will love the air fryer. I love mine, especially for chicken. I like to roast vegetables too!

YOH, I usually skip the chip isle everywhere. My previous visit to Costco I bought a huge bag of Ruffles sour cream and cheddar chips. I went there intending to buy them. I had no idea how big the bag was. Can't imagine any time I would need bag of chips that big, even if I have company. Maybe when my niece does a family holiday dinner because she always the kitchen island full of various chips and dips. I did end up throwing part of the bag away but not before I ate too many.. I looked at everything in the bakery department knowing I wouldn't buy anything. Each time I've I've been tempted by a huge banana cream pie, one of my favorites. But it is huge. I thought about asking my sister to split it with me. But even half is too much. Overall, I did good yesterday at Costco. Spent too much money, I bought a new Samsung tablet because I am tired of the Kindle. Almost bought a big dog bed for Bobby, but it was wah too big. Then I thought about it when I got home and ordered it. He's been so good during the last couple months, spends hours with me in the car driving around while people look at my house. I am pretty sure the 3 cats will crawl into the bed before Bobby ever gets a chance. I still want to sell my house whenever it is possible. When the inventory of houses has gone down. I was thinking about October or November if the weather is better. But winter is my favorite time of year here, so maybe I'll wait until February or March. And my realtor gets lots of buyers because she has so many listings with her name on the signs. I told her she can always show it to an interested and qualified buyer.
